Abstract
479,908. Cartridge magazines for machine guns. VICKERS - ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and HIGSON, P. R. Aug. 11, 1936, No. 22104. [Class 92 (ii)] Drum magazines of the Lewis type in which the cartridge rims engage a guide 23 on the inner circumference of the fixed pan 2 have a resilient member 14 pressing on the bullet ends of the rounds R to expel them progressively through the feed channel 6, 5 in the floor of the pan. The usual helical bullet guide is thus dispensed with. The cartridges are fed round the pan by a clock spring 12 acting on a plate 1 fitted with spacer members 3. Arranged within the spacer members 3, Fig. 3, and following behind the last cartridge is a radial arm 17 carried by the member 14. The radial arm is of box form at its outer end and is so shaped that, after forcing the last cartridge through the feed channel, it engages a projection 22 of the fixed guide 23 to arrest the spacer plate. To prevent the member 14 pressing two superposed bullets into the feed channel, a shaped spacing strip 24 in the form of an open ring is secured to the floor of the pan to guide the bullets into the bottom layer.
