Abstract

479,343. Laminated springs. STIRLING, C., and FOX & CO., Ltd., S. July 3, 1936, No. 18558. [Class 108 (iii)] A vehicle-supporting laminated spring is adapted to be connected to the vehicle frame through a member provided with pivots having metal to metal bearing surfaces, one of the pivots having a horizontal axis transverse to the length of the spring and the other pivot being vertical. As shown in Fig. 1, the spring eye 6 is formed with a pivotal portion 8 seating in an orifice 9 in the thickened end 10 of the uppermost leaf 1 which end overlaps and encloses the end of the next leaf 2, the eye being secured to the leaf 1 by means of a screwed shank on the portion 8 co-operating with a nut 11 flanged to abut the leaf 1. In another construction, Fig. 2, the eye 15 is formed integral with the spring in the usual manner and engages a horizontal pivot 19 extending between the side cheeks of a forked member 17 connected to the vehicle frame or body by a vertical pivot 18. In a modification the eye 15 is slotted to engage both sides of a depending member which is substituted for the forked member 17. The invention may be applied to elliptical, semi-elliptical, or three-quarter-elliptical springs.
