Abstract
204,698. Janvier, P. A. Sept. 26, 1922, [Convention date]. Laminar springs.-In a spring suspension, for vehicles and other purposes having a supplementary spring composed of a master leaf and a set of leaves on one side thereof, secured at its root end to the body and normally exerting an upward force on the axle &c., a second set of leaves is provided on the other side of said master leaf to sustain it when the body and axle have approached each other to such an extent that the first set of leaves ceases to exert an upward force on the axle. As shown in Fig. 1, a vehicle frame g supported on an axle b by the usual suspension spring a, carries an initially-stressed laminated spring d which exerts an upward force on the axle. According to the invention, the spring d is provided .with a second set of leaves on the opposite side of the master leaf to the set shown. The connection of the spring d to the axle may comprise a shackle c, Fig. 1, or a lever e, Fig. 3, pivoted at f to the frame and connected to the spring d and axle b respectively by links i, c. The upper set of leaves of the spring d, Fig. 3, constitutes the initially stressed portion of the spring.
