Abstract

479,232. Ventilating aircraft. BRONZAVIA SOC. ANON. Dec. 11, 1936, No. 34116. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1935. [Class 137] The air in a closed space such as the cabin of an aircraft at high altitude is enriched with oxygen so that the partial pressure of the oxygen is approximately equal to that of the oxygen in air at normal pressure. Oxygen from containers 1 passes through a pressure-reducing device 3 to an expansion valve 4 controlled by a barometric capsule 5 so that the pressure varies with the altitude. The amount of oxygen supplied is regulated by a valve 7 in accordance with the number of passengers. A delivery meter 8 may be combined with a control device such as that described in Specification 459,695, [Group XXIX], to indicate the correct proportioning of the oxygen supply in accordance with the altitude and munber of passengers. Air is introduced through a pipe 9 according to the setting of valve 10 depending on the number of passengers or the altitude and is mixed with the oxygen in a chamber 11 which may contain a heater 15. Air is discharged through a valve 14 so that the pressure in the space C is slightly above that outside.
