Inhalers.-Apparatus permitting the controlled administration, at will, and in any proportions of oxygen, accompanied by a gaseous anµsthetic such as laughing gas, or by a vapourized anµsthetic such as ether, or by both of these substances, comprises cylinders 1, 2 containing laughing-gas and oxygen respectively and connected through reducing valves 4 with pipes 11, 13 provided with gauges 6, 9. The pipes 11, 13 are provided with cocks 12, 14 and are connected to an injector nozzle disposed within a vapourizing device 10 receiving ether or the like dripped from a bottle 3. The device 10 communicates by a pipe 23 with a mixing chamber 24, itself communicating with a breathing bag 25, and through a valve 28 with a face mask 26. Re-breathing apparatus comprising a pipe 29, a valve 30, a carbon dioxide and water absorbing cartridge 31, and a pipe 32 connected with the bag 25 is also provided, excess gas being released through a cock 33. The ratio of gases required is initially determined by adjusting the main cocks on the cylinders 1, 2. Additional quantities of the gases may be supplied, if desirable, through pairs of pipes 15, 19 and 16, 20 connected to the chamber 24. Each pipe has a cock 17 and contains a nozzle of such size that the gas ratio is maintained constant. The groups of cocks 12, 17 and 14, 17 on the two sides of the system may be combined into a single cock unit.
