Abstract
478,955. Aircraft gun mountings. VICKERS (AVIATION), Ltd., and WALLIS, B. N. Nov. 12, 1935, Nos. 31268/35 and 13661/36. [Class 92 (i)] An aircraft gun is mounted on a spring- balanced arm d<11>, Fig. 1, by which the gun can be raised and lowered, the arm being mounted for angular displacement to port or starboard about the axis of a barrel - shaped member a located fore-and-aft of the aircraft body and enclosing the balancing spring. Fig. 1 shows the gun housed in a fairing k with slotted roof which permits of raising the gun to the position shown in Fig. 7. The arm d<11> is hinged at d<2> to a fork d at the end of the barrel a which can turn in fore-and-aft bearings b, c on the fuselage. The arm is connected by a crank pin d<9> and connecting rod g<1> to a member f feathered on the fuselage and pressing against a spring e, the ends of which are anchored to the barrel and member f. In lowered position, the arm is locked by a pin l<2> entering a recess l<1>. In raised position, the arm engages a catch h<7> on a bracket h<2> which can rock on the axle d<2> to disengage a tooth h<3> from notches i in a sector plate that serves to retain the arm when adjusted laterally against the torsional restraint of the spring e. The spring also serves to retain the teeth in engagement with the notches, and to assist in raising the gun arm. Specification 449,236 is referred to.
