Abstract

478,376. Window frames; glazing. HARRIS & SHELDON, Ltd., SANKEY & SONS, Ltd., J., and BUTLER, H. G. Aug. 17, 1936, No. 22554. [Class 20 (iii)] A metal window frame comprises an outer frame composed of channel members 1, 2, welded together with their open sides presented outwardly, to the side and lower member of which are secured hollow glass-receiving members 5, 6 respectively, and to the upper member is secured a hollow box-section member 8, provided with resilient tongue portions 8b by which a hollow member 9 is'detachably connected. To insert a pane of glass, the member 9 is detached, a vertical edge of the glass is inserted in the channel 10 of one of the side frame members 5, the glass is moved in its own plane to cause the engagement of the other edge of the glass with the opposed side frame member, and is then lowered into the channel 7 of the lower member 6, where it is positioned and held centrally by suitable means, such as angle-pieces 13, secured to the bottom of the channel portion 7, which engage the lower corners of the pane. The front portion 9 of the top frame member is then attached, and the glass bedded in with putty or mastic. Fig. 11 shows a modification of the top frame member in which the fixed portion thereof comprises a combined angle and box section 1a, to which is welded an angle strip 1b.
