Abstract

478,154. Fenders for ships. STEPHENS, E. H. Nov. 23, 1936, No. 32075. [Class 113 (i)] A fender is formed from sheets of rubber 20 secured together round a central tube 25 by flexible wire or cord 26. The sheets are spaced apart by wedges 34, and by other, narrower strips which are held in place by rubber rings placed in the notches 32. Galvanized iron washers 37 are placed in recesses in the ends. The fender may be covered with canvas. In another form, links 55 cut from sheet rubber are secured together by flexible wire 58 which are also used to attach leather pieces 60 pierced at 62 to receive the supporting rope. Several further modifications are described.
