477,628. Preventing yellow stain in photographs. STEIGMANN, A., and SAGER & DR. GOSSLER GES., F. Aug. 14, 1936, No. 22490. [Class 98 (ii)] Yellow stain in photographs is prevented by addition of iodonium compounds in small quantities, of the order of 0À1 to 0À2 grams per litre in the case of a silver halide emulsion or a developer, to the layer of photographic positive or negative material, such as a silver halide emulsion, or to another layer closely associated therewith, such as a protective, carrier, baryta, or backing layer, or to washing waters, developers, or fixing baths. Diphenyl iodonium nitrate may be added to a silver chloride emulsion prior to ripening, and diphenyl iodonium acetate may be added to a metol-hydroquinone developer. In emulsions, the addition influences the formation of grain, and in fixing baths, the addition effects regeneration. References are made to the use of iodosobenzene and of thallium salts.
