Abstract

477,560. Street &c. lamps. REVO ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and REEVES, F. H. July 17, 1936, No. 19804. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a lighting unit, more particularly for street lighting, comprising an elongated source disposed horizontally beneath an open lantern incorporating a pair of overhead reflectors i<1>, i<2> and a lower reflecting device for directing light on to the upper reflectors, the lower reflecting device comprises a pair of separate lower reflectors k<1>, k<2> spaced apart on opposite sides of the source so as to permit direct downward emission of light but prevent glare within spaced zones on opposite sides of the unit. The lantern structure includes end frames c<1> and c<2>, tie rods d and f and a cover b. The end frame c<1> carries a lamp holder e and from the rod f is suspended a longitudinally adjustable cage g having springs h for supporting the free end of the lamp. The reflectors k<1> and k<2> are supported between pairs of brackets c<4> and c<5> incorporated in the end frames and may be mounted, as shown in Fig. 2, resting in the lower of two sets of slots c<10>, c<11> and on the upper of two sets of stops c<8>, c<9> so as to reflect light from the source on to the upper reflectors or in the upper slots and on the lower stops so as to reflect light from the source downwardly and outwardly. Double-armed lever catches n<1> and n<2> operated by rotatable spring plungers o<1> and o<2> and co-operating with stops p<1> and p<2> serve to hold lower reflectors in either position.
