Abstract
Foot-arch supports are prepared to the shape of the foot by inserting an excess of a plastic mass of material in the shoe and compressing this to shape under the weight of the wearer until it has set, holes, which may be afterwards closed, being provided for the escape of the excess material. By filling a shoe provided with a support prepared as above with a mouldable material which sets, a cast may be made from which a last may be shaped, or, alternatively, a support, to which a hardening coating has been applied, may be pressed against the sole of a last and employed in the manufacture of footwear. An old arch support provided with holes and to which a hardening mass has been applied may be inserted in a shoe and subjected to the weight of the wearer to form a new arch support.
