Abstract

476,205. Brushes and mops. SAMUEL, M. Nov. 19, 1936, No. 31703. [Class 19] [Also in Group V] Sponge rubber articles, e.g. brushes, are provided with a rough sponge like surface, whilst retaining the outer skin normally produced during vulcanization, by impressing during vulcanization small closely adjacent recesses or cavities into the surface to such a depth that the size of the cells produced in the surface is substantially equivalent to the size of the cells in the interior of the sponge rubber, e.g. by providing the inner surface of the vulcanizing mould with closely adjacent pointed or granular projections. The Figure shows a brush 1 of sponge rubber, the upper and lower surfaces 3 of which have been roughened by the above process ; these surfaces may be replaced in part by rubber bristles.
