Abstract
476,098. Cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 16, 1937, No. 10913. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1936. [Class 36] In a coaxial cable comprising an outer hollow conductor and a central conductor spaced therefrom by insulated spacing-means 11, the outer conductor comprises a metal tape formed into a tube with the edges thereof abutted to form a seam, each edge having projections 14, Fig. 1, thereon overlying the outer side of the other edge. The inner conductor may be in the form of a solid wire, or a hollow or compound strand, and the outer conductor may be of circular or non-circular cross-section and may be wrapped spirally. The spacing-means may comprise a helix of insulating-material or may consist of discs 11 of artificial resin, rubber, cellulose plastic or polystyrol and may have a central aperture and a tapered slot 11<2>, Fig. 2. The teeth may be, during cold working, embedded into the material of the opposite edges, may be of harder metal than the main body of the tape and may be offset by an amount equal to the thickness of the tape toward that side which forms the outer surface of the conductor. Further, they may be spaced at equal intervals along the abutting edges or arranged in pairs.
