476,045. Knitting-machines. LEIBERKNECHT GES., K. April 28, 1936, No. 12076. Convention date, May 4, 1935. [Class 74 (ii)] Welt-forming mechanism for straight-bar machines comprises a welt bar 7 with grooved hooks 8 which press against the beards of alternate frame needles 4 to cast off their loops, then engage those loops and carry them outwardly during the knitting of the welt portion 8a and finally return them to the frame needles on completion of the welt. The welt bar 7 is carried by a frame comprising arms 12, 18, 20 mounted for rocking movement on a shaft 11, the bar being moved towards and away from the needles in a horizontal direction by a cam 15 and spring 19 respectively. The shaft 11 is carried by two pivoted arms 21 having bowls 16 which co-operate with cams 14 to impart a vertical movement to the frame and position the hooks 8 behind the needles, the welt bars being guided in their vertical movement by adjustable screws 7a and plates 10. The cams 13, 14 are carried by a shaft 13 driven through clutch mechanism from the main shaft of the machine and supported by a member 23 which is notched at its end to support the arms 12 and welt bar in inoperative position.
