Abstract

489,679. Knitting-machines. LIEBERKNECHT, R., and LIEBERKNECHT, K., (trading as LIEBERKNECHT, K., [Firm of]). April 28, 1937, No. 12129. Convention date, April 29, 1936. [Class 74 (ii)] Knitted fabric embodying stitch-locking loops is produced on a straight-bar machine having auxiliary needles which are rocked and moved longitudinally of the frame needles to engage the locking loops. As shown in Figs. 1 and 6 auxiliary needles 4 bent to knee shape to bear against the frame needles 1 are mounted on a bar 6 closely behind the knocking-over bits 7, each auxiliary needle terminating in a hook 4a and being provided with a groove at the knee for guiding the needle positively on the corresponding frame needle. When locked stitches are to be produced, the knitted loops are passed over the auxiliary needles 4 to knee level and locking loops 3 are sunk on the frame needles as shown in Fig. 1, whereupon the needles 4 are rocked anticlockwise about the point 5 and raised to bring the hooks 4a above the loops 3. The needles 4 are then rocked clockwise and lowered to pull the loops 3, Fig. 3, through the knitted loops 8 which are cast off on to the frame needles. During the subsequent downward movement of the needles, the knitted loops 8 pass into the hooks of the frame needles and the loops 3 released by the needles 4 to be cast off over the heads of the needles 1. To render possible the rocking movement of the needles 4, needle bar supporting arms are mounted on pivots 5a, Fig. 6, on arms 18 and the rocking movement is imparted by a rod 31 and cam operated levers 30, 26. The auxiliary needle bar 6 is also movable vertically and horizontally by cam operated levers 12, 19 connected to the levers 18 through shafts 10 and 17. Specification 412,524 is referred to.
