Abstract

475,621. Valve modulating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 9, 1937, No. 6948. Convention date, March 9, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] The efficiency of a loss modulator is improved by maintaining the D.C. anode current of the power valve substantially constant by a lowfrequency choke. A power amplifier valve 1 has its input connected to a carrier frequency source 2 and the anode 4 connected by condenser 8 to the tank circuit 9, 10. Anode current is supplied from a source 7 through an H.F. choke 5 and a modulation frequency choke 6. The loss introducing valve 12 has its anode-cathode space connected across the tank circuit and modulation from source 19 supplied to its grid 16. The effect of the choke 6 in preventing changes of anode current at modulation frequency is to provide an increased degree of modulation for a given variation in loss by absorbing power during the modulation troughs.
