Abstract

475,458. Railway - vehicle underframes. EBELL, O. M., and COUZIN & ATTWOOD (PROPRIETARY), Ltd. Jan. 14, 1937, No. 1172. [Class 103 (vi)] The underframe of a tipping or other wagon for use in mines, factories, &c. comprises a single straight longitudinal member 2 to which are secured the means for supporting the wagon body and the means for mounting the member 2 on the wheel axles. As shown, the member 2 consists of a central tubular member, near to the ends of which are mounted tubular posts 11 reinforced by transverse and longitudinal gussets 23, 20 and carrying rocker saddles 15 on which work the rockers 16 attached to the tipping body 10. Tubular buffers 32 inserted in the ends of the member 2 and provided with buffing faces 35 operate in conjunction with rubber or like pads 33, and are prevented from complete withdrawal by screws 39 passed through the tube 2. The axles 6 are secured to the flat under surfaces of two T-section bearers 3, the vertical flanges 4 of which are cut away to receive the tube 2, to which they are welded.
