Abstract
474,816. Knitting. ATKIN, G. H., and ATKIN, R. J. May 8, 1936, No. 19331/37. Divided out of 469,890. [Class 74 (ii)] Belts, bands, pyjama girdles, &c. are made of warp knitted fabric, there being two yarns to each needle of the machine. Both yarns may be knitted as shown at 1a or one yarn can be knitted and the other laid in, as shown at 2a, to make a narrower section of fabric. The laid-in warps may lap over two or more needles. The change-over from one kind of fabric to another is controlled by a cam 47 which completes one revolution in the time that one girdle &c. is knitted. The threads a<1> b<1> are carried in guides 26, 24 from bars 27, 25. The bar 25 is fixed to a bracket 28 traversing with a shaft 29, while the bar 27 is fixed to a bracket 30 which is loose on the shaft 29. The bracket 30 also carries a spring catch 31, the end 32 of which, by engaging a notch 34 in the bracket 28, enables the bars 25, 27 to be traversed, together with the brackets 28, 30 and the shaft 29, from a cam 35. The catch 31 may be held out of engagement with notch 34 by a lever 41, pivoted on and traversing with a shaft 42. This occurs when the end 64 of a lever 44 rests on the high part 47a of the cam 47. The bracket 30 and threads a<1> are then traversable by the shaft 42 from a cam 49, independently of the bracket 28 and threads b<1>. The cams 35, 49 are geared together. The guides 24 are moved through the line of needles in unison with the guides 26, by a cam 39 acting on an arm 36 fixed to the shaft 29. A sliding pin and' apertured lug connection 50, 51 enables the brackets 28, 30 to swing together at all times. Specification 469,890 is referred to.
