Abstract
474,239. Gravity-separation apparatus. UNIFLOC REAGENTS, Ltd., and SAMUEL, J. O. April 27, 1936, No. 11951. [Class 111] Settling-apparatus stated to be applicable for concentrating slurries, such as those obtained by the process described in Specification 435,126, is provided with a rotary scraper which is of involute or substantially involute form and of such cross-section that alone or in conjunction with the bottom of the settling-chambers it forms a box-like structure with an open side in the direction of travel. A scraper so formed is said to promote concentration of the discharged sludge. The scraper 17, is of L-shaped vertical crosssection and its vertical wall comprises a number of straight sections, each section being at an acute angle to the radius at its outer end and at right-angles to the radius at its inner end. The scraper, which is supported by arms 16, Fig. 1, from a shaft 13, has its lower edges curved to conform to the bottom of the container 10. It may be partly or wholly lined with rubber, and may be counterweighted. The shaft 13 is carried by a bridge extending across the top of the container and is driven by gearing 15. The liquid is fed to the tank through a truncated cone 23 and directed by a cone 21 against the inner wall of a curtain 20. A lower cone 22 directs the liquid outwards.
