Abstract
447,425. Gravity-separation apparatus. STOTHERT & PITT, Ltd., Bath, and BECKERLEG, G. R., Tresillian, Coleshill Road, Water Orton, near Birmingham. Nov. 22, 1934, No. 33637. [Class 46] The scraper blades of a conveyer for removing solid matter from a settling tank are carried by a band of rubber or waterproofed fabric. As shown scrapers 12 are riveted to an endless belt 11 of rubber-covered canvas, the belt being formed with apertures between adjacent scrapers to allow the solid matter to pass to the bottom of the tank. The material under treatment is supplied to the tank through ports 8 in the side wall. Liquid passes over a weir 5 to an outlet 7 and the settled matter is pushed by the scrapers up an inclined portion 4 of the floor and over a lip 9 into a shoot 10. The belt is driven from the upper pulley 14. The bearings of the pulley 15 at the other end and those of guide pulleys 17 at the angle of the floor may be supplied with water under pressure to prevent the entry of sand. The bearings of the pulley 15 are adjustable to take up slack. In order to prevent wear the bottom of the tank may be lined along the edges with strips of wood. Curved plates 25 may be provided on the sides of the tank to guide the belt where it passes round the pulley 15.
