Abstract

482,379. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Oct. 2, 1936, Nos. 26727 and 35493. [Class 111] A sludge scraper 14 and a scumming blade 17 are supported by arms pivoted on a structure 10 moving over a settling tank in such manner that either scraper or blade can be raised above the liquid level or that of the tank walls. As shown the scraper and blade are supported at the ends of arms 15. Chains 24 passing round pulleys 25, 26 connect the arms 15 to counterweights 27. In a modification, the arms 15 are in parts hinged together at the pivots, the arrangement being such that the blade 17 normally falls, when the scraper 14 is raised, but can be raised independently of the scraper. In a further modification, the scraper 14 is carried by counterweighted arms pivoted at the ends of the arms 15. The chains 24 are connected to reduction gear operated by an electric motor. The arms which carry the scumming blade are pivoted independently of the arms 15 and are turned by a manually operated winch. A scum trough, which may have a covering grid or grating, may be arranged at one end of the tank and provided with an incline up which the scumming blade is driven. Specification 407,122 is referred to.
