474,134. Racket strings. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc. March 6, 1937, No. 6669. Convention date, March 7, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Class 109] A resilient racket string comprises a rubber core and a tightly braided outer cover which holds the core extended longitudinally and compressed circumferentially. The pressure imparts to the string a contractive force in excess of the strength of the core. An intermediate textile cover or two oppositely wound covers may be wrapped round the core. Before or during the braiding operation the covered core may be treated with adhesive containing animal glue, glycerine and castor oil. After the braid is applied and before the adhesive binder sets, the string is preferably stretched under high tension and dried in this condition. The string may be repeatedly wetted and dried under tension to stretch it to approximately the limit of elongation. It is then treated with a flexible waterproofing material, such as lacquer.
