Abstract

279,998. Cresswell, J. J. Sept. 29, 1926. Handles.-Hand-grips for tennis rackets, golf clubs, &c., consist of a tube B of rubber or like compressible elastic material provided with an outer covering C of textile material such as linen, cotton, or artificial silk, woven or braided before application, or woven, braided, &c. on the elastic material the cover C being cut on the slant, or braided &c. with the threads arranged obliquely, and then stretched longitudinally and thereby contracted radially upon the hand-grip. The covering C is finally coated with a solution of celluloid, or other solution, varnish, enamel, &c. which is resistant to the heat, moisture, and grease of the hand. The tube B may be mounted upon a tube A of papier machÚ, thin metal, &c. The material C may be cut on the slant, seamed together, and stretched over the tube B, the ends being tucked into the tube A and secured by a ring D, plug E, &c. One or both ends of the covering C may alternatively be secured by binding with thread or wire.
