[Class 17 (iii)] A detachable rubber sole or heel comprises two or more pads together adapted to cover the sole or heel and having interlocking projections on their abutting edges and also undercut recesses in their upper surface to engage the undercut edges of a retaining plate secured to, or forming part of, the sole or heel. The heel plate, Fig. 4, has a waist 22 and undercut rear and front edges 23, 25. The edges around the waist are bevelled. The detachable heel comprises a front part 30, Fig. 7, and a rear part 40, Fig. 10. The part 30 comprises an undercut recess 37 adapted to fit over the front portion 21 of the plate, and three dovetail projections 35, 36. The projections 36 are stiffened by a metal strip 39 and are of the full thickness of the part 30, and the projection 35 is arranged to lie over the waist 22. The edges of the projections are bevelled. The part 40 has an undercut recess 43 to fit the rear portion of the plate, and two dovetail projections 41 to interlock with the projections 35, 36. The projections 41 are the full thickness of the part 40, so that they lock into the waist of the plate. In a modification, the plate 21 is not waisted, and the heel parts are provided with suction cavities where they overlie the plate.
