Abstract

473,941. Feeding articles from stacks. STEVENS, A. H. (Swift, Inc., G. W.) Jan. 21, 1937, No. 1821. [Class 117] In a machine wherein flat articles are fed from the bottom of a stack, the bottom article is pushed partly from the stack and means are provided to complete the withdrawal and deposit it on a device which feeds the main rolls of the machine which may, for example, be a printing or slotting machine. In the form shown, the blanks in the magazine 2, which are to be conveyed to the feed rolls 4 of a device for printing and/or slotting them, are individually pushed partly from the bottom of the stack by a reciprocating pusher 7 whereupon they are gripped by the rolls 6 which deliver them to the conveyer 10 slightly in front of the pusher bars 15. In a modification, an additional stage is introduced in the form of a second conveyer which transmits the blanks from the rolls 6 to the conveyer 10. Mechanisms for driving the rolls, conveyers, and the pusher 7 are described in detail.
