[Class 18] A length of towelling passes between a handoperated roller 5 and two nip rollers so that when the middle roller is rotated clean towel is drawn from a braked supply roll 9 and soiled towel is fed to a takeup roll 8 geared by a belt &c. 17 to one of the rollers 5. The rollers 5 have roughened surfaces and the hand-operated one is geared by a chain &c. 19a to a check device consisting of a cam 21 having a spiral groove 22 and a radial section 23, and a stop pin 24 connected to the piston of a dash pot 29.
