Abstract

Double compounds are prepared from dimethylxanthines by reacting metal compounds thereof with salts of valerianic acid, preferably of isovalerianic acid. The reaction may be effected in an aqueous medium using molar quantities of the reactants, whilst the metal present in each reactant comprises the alkali and alkaline earth metals. Thus, 1 mol. of theobromine-sodium may be combined with 1 mol. of sodium isovalerianate or 1 mol. of theobromine-strontium with 2 mols. of strontium isovalerianate. The products possess therapeutic properties. According to the example, theobromine is added to a solution of caustic soda in aqueous alcohol, mixed with an aqueous solution of sodium isovalerianate, and evaporated under reduced pressure.
