472,839. Fuel tanks in aircraft wings. SUPERMARINE AVIATION WORKS (VICKERS), Ltd., and MITCHELL, R. J. March 31, 1936, No. 9517. Drawings to Specification. [Class 4] An aircraft wing comprising upper and lower booms is combined with a separately formed complete tank shaped to the contour of a part of the wing, attached to the booms and having a part of the tank extending between the booms adapted to act as the main stress-taking web of the spar. The part of the tank may supplement a light web connecting the booms in which case the tank may be readily detachable. The tank may be disposed forward or, to the rear of a single or forward spar and in the case of a two spar wing the tank may extend between the two spars and form the web of each spar. The booms and the corners of the tank may be so shaped that the part of the tank lies in a plane containing the axes of both booms.
