Abstract
472,312. Protective cut-out arrangements. FOWLER, E. A.. HYMAN, L., and OUGHTON, W. E. Feb. 4, 1937, No. 3789/36. [Class 38 (v)] An installation comprising an H.T. circuit fed from an L.T. circuit through a transformer, which may be of the leaky-field type or plain double-wound type, is protected against excess H.T. volts by means of a spark-gap 6 connected across the H.T. circuit 1, and a fuse 5 in the gap adapted when the gap breaks down, to melt and release a spring-actuated member 7 carrying a contact 4 normally bridging contacts in the L.T. circuit 2. When released, the rod 7 slides in a guide 10 under spring- action 12 to open the L.T. circuit and hence de-energize the H.T. circuit, which may supply an electron discharge tube (neon-sign) installation and contain overload fuses. The member 8 to which the other end of the fuse 5 is pinned may be earthed, and may either be fixed or adjustable in a guide 13 by means of a cam 14 rotatable in member 8. Where each of a number of tubes has its own transformer, a fault in one H.T. circuit may interrupt all or some of the L.T. circuits.
