Abstract

472,216. Amusement apparatus. RAWSON, A. Jan. 18, 1937, No. 1446. [Class 132 (i)] A passenger-carrying car or boat 23 secured to an arm 1, and counterbalanced by a weight 38 secured between arms 37 is rotated in a vertical plane about a fixed pin 4 by an electric motor 17 mounted on the supporting post 2 through chain - and - sprocket gearing. The wheel 15 on the motor shaft 16, Fig. 6, drives through a chain 18 a sprocket wheel 14 rigid with a shaft mounted in ball bearings in a bracket 12, a pinion 21 on this shaft driving through a chain 20 a sprocket wheel 8 on the pin 4, the wheel 8 being rigid with a sleeve 6 carrying the arms 1, 37. The post 2 is secured to a Y-shaped base 24 and braced by guys and a strut 25. A pedestal 29 supports a switch 28 for the motor and a lever 32 which through a cord or linkage serves to operate a brake 31 acting on the hub of sprocket wheel 14 which is protected from injury by projecting arms 13 on the post 2. In a modification, a single vertical post 2, Fig. 4, supports two cars 23 rotatable in separate vertical planes about a single pin 4.
