Abstract
Lecithin in the form of non-sticky small balls or rods is prepared by drying lecithin in very thin layers in vacuum or other apparatus until it contains only one per cent of water, restoring it to a plastic condition by addition of about 5 to 6 per cent of alcohol, forming it into the desired shapes, and dipping them, at a temperature of about 40 to 60 DEG C., into molten beeswax, palmitin, stearin or the like to form a water-proof coating.ALSO:Lecithin for therapeutic purposes is prepared in the form of small pills or rods by drying commercial lecithin in very thin layers in vacuum or other apparatus until it contains only one per cent of moisture, restoring the dried lecithin to a plastic condition by adding about 5 to 6 per cent of alcohol, forming it by mechanical means into the desired shapes, and dipping them, at a temperature of about 40 to 60 DEG C., into molten beeswax, palmitin, stearin or the like to form a waterproof coating. The prior use of lecithin mixed with a large proportion of a pulverulent substance for making pills, is referred to.
