[Class 83 (iv)] In an arc welding apparatus of the kind in which a bare wire electrode is continuously fed to the work and a flux coating applied during feed of the wire, an axially movable sleeve 6 encompasses the electrode 2 concentrically, the space 10 between the electrode and sleeve being connected to a pump for conveying the coating material to the electrode. The electrode is fed by pinions 3, 4 and the sleeve is fed forwards at the same speed as the electrode to the point 11 and is then retracted at greater speed, the pump supplying the paste to the space 10 through a flexible armoured hose 8, during the rearward motion.
