Abstract

435,734. Uniting by fusion. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. March 8, 1935, No. 7304. Convention date, March 9, 1934. [Class 83 (iv)] In automatic arc welding with flux coated electrodes, two electrodes are fed simultaneously to the work, the current being supplied thereto by slip or roller contacts arranged between and engaging the uncovered surfaces of the electrodes. The electrodes may be fed in coated form or the coating may be applied during feeding. Two electrodes 1 of semicircular or semielliptical cross-section are fed to the work from supply rolls and are pressed by rolls 3 against a wedgeshaped current supply contact 2 or a pair of contacts separated by springs. The electrodes pass through a die 4 through which is fed a strip 5 of fluxing material which is drawn round the electrodes and the edges pushed by a roller 7 between them as shown in Fig. 3. They then pass through rolls 8 which press them together so as to completely enclose the electrodes with the fluxing material. The electrodes may be provided with coatings prior to insertion in the apparatus. In the form c, Fig. 4, the uncoated surfaces may be provided with longitudinal grooves to engage the contacts and in form d a groove in one electrode may engage a rib on the other electrode after passing through the rolls 8.
