Abstract

476,794. Electric welding. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1937, No. 22902. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] A spot - welding process consists in applying to each spot two or more rushes of current of increasing heating-effect, separated by pauses, so as to obtain large spot-welds. This may be effected by increasing the current intensity while maintaining the electrode pressure and duration of current constant, by reducing the electrode pressure while maintaining the current intensity and duration constant, or by increasing the current duration while maintaining the electrode pressure and current intensity constant. In cases in which the electrode pressure is reduced, it may be increased while the current is off and reduced during each rush of current. In welding plates 1, 2 of light metal by this process, the spot-weld 3 is produced by the first rush of current and the spots 4 and 5 by succeeding rushes of current.
