Abstract

A 3 mm. diameter rod of this material is used to weld plates centred over a grooved copper backing bar embedded in a steel welding bench with the joint having a single V-groove configuration. Welding is carried out using a thoriated tungsten electrode with argon as shielding gas, using 9 passes. Alternatively the alloy may be used, in the form of 6-1 mm. diameter wire, as a consumable electrode, the other conditions being the same as with the tungsten electrode. In another example a weld was made in plates clamped to a steel grooved plate in a vertical position using a consumable electrode of the alloy with a helium argon mixture as the shielding gas.
