Abstract
423,021. Uniting by fusion. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 22, 1934, No. 24246. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1933. [Class 83 (iv)] A delivery nozzle for supplying current to an arc welding electrode as it is fed towards the work comprises relatively movable contacts biassed to engage the electrode, and at least one of which serves to conduct the current, the contacts being so arranged as to prevent their engagement with one another. The nozzle 10 which is clamped in an automatic or semi-automatic arc welding machine, preferably by means which supplies current to the nozzle, has a guideway 11 for the electrode, into which project a number of fixed and adjustable contacts 13 and a contact 14, which is under control of an adjustable spring 15. The contacts may have V-notches to guide the electrode and are faced with wearresisting material as described in Specification 245,437, [Class 82 (i)]. When feeding a coated electrode through the nozzle parts of the coating are removed by the contacts and are discharged through openings 19, 20 or 21. The nozzle is provided with a removable tip 22 which may be replaced by one of different size, as required. The nozzle may be of metal or of nonconducting material, in which latter case one or more of the contacts are directly connected to the current supply. The contact 14 may be of nonconducting material or may be insulated from the nozzle or the spring may be insulated from the nozzle while the contact 14 is connected thereto by a flexible conductor.
