Abstract

471,582. Vaporizers. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R. Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2626. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1936. [Class 7 (iii)] In a vaporizer for starting injection or other engines in which the vaporizing element is a heated pipe 10 in unobstructed communication with a fuel reservoir 12 below the fuel level, the outlet opening 11 for the fuel vapour produced is above the highest fuel level in the reservoir, and an obstruction or restriction to the flow of the fuel vapour produces a pressure tending to force part of the fuel back towards the reservoir, in order to regulate the production of vapour. As shown in Fig. 1, the reservoir 12 is provided with an overflow 14 and the pipe 10 is heated by an electric coil 15 and terminates in a restricted nozzle 11 adjacent to an air inlet 17 in the air induction pipe L above an air filter F. In a modification, Fig. 2, the pipe 20 serves as a heating resistance and is carried through a tube 25 traversing the reservoir 22 and a lower reduced part 23. A connection piece 27 has fuel ports 28 and is inserted in an insulator 26 secured by a bolt 29 to which current is supplied. The pipe 20 is connected to a nozzle 36 controlled by a needle valve, and located in a chamber 38 having air inlets 39 and an outlet 37 to the induction pipe L. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the fuel reservoir 40 is mounted directly on the induction pipe L by means of a casing 22 enclosing the vaporizing pipe 20, which is mounted at its upper end in an insulated plug 45 connected to the source of electric current. A constriction 46 is provided in the pipe 20. The reservoir 40 is supplied by the overflow fuel from one of the fuel-injection nozzles on the engine, and may be fitted with a gauge-glass 34.
