Abstract

470,123. Driving sound and like films. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MORFEY, D. S. April 21, 1936, No. 11400. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Relates to rollers associated with a photographic sound film or the like and of the kind in which the roller 2 is perforated and a partial vacuum is produced inside the roller to maintain cohesion between the film 1 and the roller. According to the invention, a stationary hollow cylinder 5 is provided inside the roller and a portion of the periphery of the cylinder is removed to form an opening 11 through which the suction effect of the interior vacuum acts. The opening 11 extends over an angle b within the angle a of contact between the film and the roller. The perforations 12 in the roller are preferably obliquely disposed. The roller carries a casing 10 containing a fly-wheel 8 on ball bearings 9. The casing 10 is filled with light oil, which acts as a coupling between the casing and the fly-wheel.
