Abstract

469,689. Electrodeposition of metals. WILLIAMS, A. I. WYNNE-. Feb. 24, 1936, Nos. 5534 and 5535. [Class 41] Sheets, strips or tubes of copper, nickel, or silver are made by deposition on a rotating cylindrical cathode over which a brushing device is reciprocated axially, the pressure p of the brush lying between 1 and 4 lb. per square inch of the overall cross-section and being related to the rate of deposition by the formula where i is the increment of deposit in inches between two successive passages of the brush in the same direction. The brush preferably consists of a bundle of glass bristles each of about 0À002 inch diameter bound by a wrapping of material not attacked by the electrolyte such as wire of a nickel-chrome steel alloy ; it may be weighted by a metal collar. The cathode or its surface may be of stainless steel.
