Abstract

In the conversion of oxides of carbon with hydrogen, particularly for the production of hydrocarbons or their oxygenated derivatives, wet steam is used as an indirect heat-exchange medium for regulating the temperature. The steam should contain up to 40 per cent of liquid water and it may be used at a pressure at which the temperature of dry steam is slightly below the reaction temperature. If the heat evolved is more than sufficient to dry the steam supplied, water may be sprayed into the cooling chamber to maintain the moist condition.
