Abstract
469,331. Moulding batteryboxes &c. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PHIPPS, A. E. Jan. 24, 1936, No. 2286. [Class 87 (ii)] A press for moulding articles such as battery-boxes from a vulcanizable rubber composition comprises a heated casing 1 having a tapered opening into which fits a liner comprising plates 7 hinged to a base 6 that is carried by an hydraulic ram 10, and an hydraulically-controlled press member comprising detachable elements 13 for forming the partitions 15 and end walls 14 of the battery-box. In use, the plunger 10 is raised, the sides 7 of the liner are opened, as shown in Fig. 2, and the moulded battery-box 14 is removed. The plunger 10 is then lowered, thereby closing the sides 7 as the liner passes into the casing 1. A charge of material is placed in the mould, and the press members 13 are lowered.
