Abstract

469,134. Vehicle spring - suspensions. BROCKHOUSE & CO., Ltd., J., and DEAR, A. T. C. Feb. 6, 1936, No. 3579. [Class 108 (ii)] In vehicle suspensions in which the wheel is carried by a pair of arms, one of which is connected to the frame through a torsion spring, two oppositely disposed wheels are mounted for movement relative to the frame about a common pivotal axis and each wheel is connected to the frame by separate torsion spring bars whose axes are parallel to the common pivotal axis and whose length is at least equal to the distance between the two radius arms. The vehicle shown represents one for conveying cable drums, and the wheels 10 thereof are carried by arms 12, 13 adapted to rotate about the axis of the tube 14 which houses a torsion spring 19 of bar form. A second tube 15 houses a second torsion spring 20. The arm 12 is connected by means of its bearing sleeve 17 and collar 21 to the free end of torsion spring 19, the other end of which is anchored adjustably to the frame 16 by a crank arm 26. The arm 13 of the other wheel rotates by means of its bearing sleeve 18 about the tube 14 and is linked by crank 28 and link 29 to a crank 30, the bearing sleeve 31 of which is keyed or secured to the free end of the second torsion spring 20, the other end of which is adjustably secured to the frame 16 by a crank arm 35 similar to arm 36. In a modification, the fixed tubes 14, 15 may be dispensed with and the torsion springs 19, 20 formed as bars or tubes of the same diameter as the tubes 14, 15 and adapted to rotate in the sleeves 39 of the frame. The torsion springs may be extended and provided at their free ends with return tubes connected to the arms 12, 13. Specification 471,740 is referred to.
