Abstract

467,332. Valve amplifying circuits. FERRANTI, Ltd., TAYLOR, M. K., and ATKINSON, S. Sept. 10, 1935, No. 25140. [Class 40 (v)] The invention is concerned with reduction of phase-distortion in carrier frequency amplifiers for television or code-telegraphy. The distortion due to non-proportional variation of the phase difference of components of a modulated carrier frequency wave together with that due to the phase angle at zero modulation frequency being other than zero or a multiple of # is reduced by employing a double beat heterodyne system comprising two oscillator and mixing stages 28, 22; 25, 29, the IF amplifier 23, 24 following the first stage being tuned to say the sum frequency while the IF amplifiers 26, 27 following the second mixing stage is tuned to the difference frequency or vice versa. British Specifications 279,808, [Class 40 (v)], 346,422, and U.S.A. Specification 1,830,173, are referred to.
