Abstract

466,628. Rotary meters. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and SAYERS, W. H. April 1, 1936, No. 9578. [Class 110 (ii)] A meter having a rotor 9 placed in a stream of liquid flowing from an inlet 1 to an outlet 2, is provided with a barrel 10 on the spindle 8, so that once per revolution an electrical circuit is completed by brushes 13, 14, and metallic parts 11, 12, on the barrel. A battery, or other current source, 19 supplies a magnet 20 when the circuit is completed, to actuate a pallet 23 and so turn a wheel 24 to drive an indicating or recording mechanism. The rotor may have vanes shaped as half circles, the liquid stream striking the rotor tangentially. In a further modification a stream-lined rotor has helical vanes, and the rotor lies in mid-stream. The casing curves outwards around the rotor to secure a smooth flow of the liquid. Silver may be used for the parts 11, 12. The Provisional Specification states that the electric circuit may be completed through the metal spindle and one bearing.
