Abstract

Artificial silk is sized with completely or almost completely acetylated mono- or disaccharides, to which fats, waxes, oils, sulphonated oils, fatty alcohol sulphonates, colloids and soaps may be added. The sizing materials may be dissolved in such solvents a pyridine, benzine, benzene, or halogenated hydrocarbons, and the same solvents may be used for de-sizing, if necessary with the addition of a detergent such as a soap, fatty alcohol sulphonate, or condensation product of a fatty acid with taurine or oxy-ethane sulphonic acid, with or without a weak alkali.ALSO:Artificial silk is sized with completely or almost completely acetylated mono- or disaccharides, to which fats, waxes, oils, sulphonated oils, fatty alcohol sulphonates, colloids and soaps may be added. The sizing materials may be dissolved in such solvents as pyridine, benzine, benzene, or halogenated hydrocarbons, and the same solvents may be used for de-sizing, if necessary with the addition of a detergent such as a soap, fatty alcohol sulphonate, or condensation product of a fatty acid with taurine or oxy-ethane sulphonic acid, with or without a weak alkali.
