Abstract
334,177. Zimmermann, S. Oct. 2, 1928, [Convention date]. Saponaceous cleansing-compositions in which the proportions of fat-solvents may be large and yet the compositions be soluble in water, are prepared by saponifying a fat with less than the stochiometric quantity of alkali in presence of propyl or isopropyl alcohol, the hydrocarbon or other solvent being added before, during, or after saponification. The alcohol may be volatilized from the soap wholly or in part. A soap containing more than the desired proportion of solvent may be mixed with soap containing no solvent. In an example, to 250 lb. of fatty acid and 15 lb. of isopropyl alcohol dissolved in 1000 lb. of benzine is added an aqueous solution of 35 lb. of caustic soda; any desired quantity of soap containing no solvent of fat is then mixed in. Solvents specified are benzine, benzene, terpenes, and halogenated hydrocarbons. 50 per cent. of solvent in the finished soap is referred to. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the presence of alcohol is optional, and any alcohol may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
