466,318. Calendering machines for paper and fabrics. ETABLISSEMENTS SCHAEFFER & CIE. July 29, 1936, No. 21016. Convention date, Sept. 4, 1935. [Classes 42 (i) and 96] Progressively increasing pressures are exerted in the direction of travel of paper, fabric, &c., 8, in a horizontal or vertical calender, by primary presses 3, and secondary presses 5 on the machine framework. The pressure may be hydraulic, the cylinders and pistons being connected, by levers 6, pivoted at 7, with the bearings of resilient rollers 2, which are alternate with metallic rollers 1. In a modification the pistons only are so connected.
