466,282. Converting. SIEMENS SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 30, 1935, No. 33265. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1934. [Class 38 (ii)] Grid control voltages of various shapes, particularly flat topped, for discharge devices, are obtained by combining a number of phase displaced peaky voltages of the form shown in Fig. 3. The peaky voltages are obtained from transformers working at saturation. Fig. 4a shows a symmetrical potential formed from six phase displaced components. By rectifying one or more of the components, the waveform is altered by the lengthening or shortening of the positive half wave. Fig. 11 shows a circuit in which the secondary 26 is connected in circuit with the secondaries 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 through a rectifier bridge 34. The resistances 35, 36 and rectifier 37 are provided to avoid dissymmetry. The amplitudes of the various components may be graded giving, e.g. a wave form as shown in Fig. 13. Means may also be provided for making the negative peak of a component different in amplitude from the positive peak. A waveform having a steep front as shown in Fig. 15 may be obtained by providing common yokes to the pairs of transformers I, II ; III, IV and V, VI, Fig. 11, these yokes being dimensioned so as to saturate. Alternatively, two three-phase transformers having a common yoke or two three-phase transformers with their fluxes displaced less than 30‹ may be used.
