Abstract
466,182. Melting - pot furnaces. HENLEY EXTRUSION MACHINE CO., Ltd., and DUNSHEATH, P. Nov. 22, 1935, No. 32419. [Class 51 (ii)] Charging.-In a metal-melting pot having an air-lock charging device, there is provided a member which is automatically operated as an ingot is being delivered to the pot so as to protect the charging device from splashing by the molten metal. In the form shown, the feeder comprises a slotted cylinder 14 which is fitted at the outer end with a pivoted flap counter-weighted at 21 and is rotatable within an outer cylinder 9, the latter having a cut-away portion 10 through which the ingot falls into the pot 1. The cylinder 14 is fitted with a series of rollers 19 to facilitate insertion of the ingot. The protecting member for the feeder consists of a pivoted counterweighted trough 25 which, on receiving an ingot from the cylinder 14, swing downward to a position in which, as the ingot slides off the lower wall 29, the upper wall 30 forms a screen for the feeder. The trough 25 may be interconnected with the cylinder 14 means such as a latch 34 actuated by a solenoid 35 being provided to release it at the appropriate time.
