Abstract

A self-lubricating composition for bearings, glands, &c comprising powdered metal or metal alloy and powdered graphite has from 10 per cent to 50 per cent of graphite. The article is produced in moulds subjected to heat and a pressure of from 1 to 100 atmospheres. The article is heated, pressed, and brought to its final form in the mould, but is made soft or hard by cooling before or after moulding.
